The history and roots of jazz can be found in blues and ragtime music that came from Africa and Europe. Some people claim that this unique union that jazz first started in African American communities in New Orleans during the early 20th century. Other people claim that jazz was actually introduced in 1895 when Buddy Bolden started a band, and other people still claim that Nick LaRocca and his jazz band recorded the song “Livery Stable Blues” in 1917 that can be called the first jazz album in history. Although nobody knows the exact time that jazz was introduced, it started becoming very popular during the 1920s. The New Orleans jazz sound started getting lots of attention from all types of people, and this is the time when jazz started influencing popular culture and fashion as well. Jazz is what gave birth to different types of music which include rap, hip hop, pop, rock and roll, big band, and swing.

November 2019: Cancun Jazz Festival
The Cancun Jazz Festival just happens to be one of the most popular activities in Cancun. This festival has been held every year since 2003 and is typically held the weekend after Thanksgiving. The Cancun Jazz Festival is an open-air concert due to the perfect Cancun weather. The audience will have an amazing time because the festival provides different jazz genres. Each year more than 20,000 people attend the festival, so be prepared for large crowds. Some of the jazz musicians that have attended past festivals include Herbie Hancock, Celso Pina, George Benson, Earth Wind and Fire, Tower of Power, and Spyro Gira. From November 30th through December 2nd the festival will occur on Mamitas Beach, which is an added bonus, because everyone loves the beach. A massive stage will be built, and the festival is free of charge unless you want to be up close to the stage. For only 18 pesos, you can gain access to the VIP area where it is less crowded, but we recommend you arrive early to secure your spot as space is limited.
