Wind Festival Details

In 2016, the Riviera Nayarit Wind Festival was even named as a 100 Moments of Mexico winner which celebrated the top events to attend in Mexico. In 2017, the Riviera Nayarit Wind Festival had over 250 competitors which were a record-breaking number of participants. This year is expected to receive over 300 competitors from all across the world, and over 5000 spectators and 100 news and media outlets are expected to be on hand to witness this exciting event.
Categories and Competition Info
May 17th to May 19th you should head to the upscale resort neighborhood of Nuevo Vallarta, which is just 20 minutes north of Puerto Vallarta. Attendees to the Wind Festival will be mesmerized by the impressive sailing and kiteboarding competitions, great food and entertainment. The largest number of competitors are participating in the Kiteboarding competition. Categories include Freestyle, Downwind, Slalom, Big Air, Long Distance, and Regata de Foil, and rules indicate that participants must start at the same time with the winner being whoever reaches the goal most quickly. In addition, the Riviera Nayarit Wind Festival is also sponsoring Mexico’s International Kiteboarding Championship in hopes of further promoting windsurfing in Banderas Bay. The International Kiteboarding Championship wants to raise awareness of Banderas Bay in the sailing community as an ideal location for water sports. Festivals such as these also help to support amateur kiteboarders and assist them in reaching their professional goals.
