Puerto Vallarta is a beautiful town in Mexico that is known for having some of the most beautiful beaches. Old Town Vallarta has charming cobblestone streets and the Malecon is a historic landmark, which is ideal for people that are wanting to walk along and enjoy the beautiful ocean and bay views. Puerto Vallarta has many beach options to meet each mood. You can enjoy relaxing with a delicious cocktail or take in the crowded beach energy.

Playa Los Muertos Beach

Playa Los Muertos is the main beach that is located right off of the Puerto Vallarta malecon. The Playa Los Muertos Beach is the most popular beach in Puerto Vallarta and is located just within walking distance from Old Town where there are a variety of shops, boutiques, and restaurants. Visitors can enjoy street vendors selling freshly caught oysters, grilled shrimp, and fresh fish on sticks along with upscale dining options, too. If you enjoy water adventures, then you can enjoy the banana boats or parasailing if you are not afraid of heights. Parasailing will provide you with exciting and breathtaking Puerto Vallarta and Banderas Bay views. Many of the restaurants provide tables and chairs on the sandy Playa Los Muertos Beach where you can relax and enjoy the view. The Puerto Vallarta pier is especially wonderful at night. The pier is designed to resemble a sailboat and its colorful lights will make any beach stroll more romantic.

Conchas Chinas Beach

The Conchas Chinas Beach in Puerto Vallarta is ideal for romance and tranquility. The water is a breathtaking bluish green and the sands are soft and white. The Conchas Chinas Beach is just a few minutes from Old Town, and this beach is usually quiet and less crowded. The waters are normally calm as well. The sand on this beach is made up of small, tiny sea shells, which means “Conchas Chinas” in Spanish. Towards the southern end of the Conchas Chinas Beach there are tide pools, which makes this area perfect for little children to play and explore.

Playa Palmares Beach

Just south from the Conchas Chinas Beach is the Playa Palmares Beach, which is another favorite beach for many of the locals. The Playa Palmares Beach was named after the condo that is located next to the beach. The beach can be accessed from the condo by taking the stairs directly from the main road that is next to the condo. Usually, the beach is not very crowded and it is quiet, and this beach is known as one of the best beaches to swim at. The Playa Palmares Beach’s water is crystal clear and compared to other beaches in Puerto Vallarta, the sand is extremely soft. This beach is perfect for a picnic as there are not many dining options at this beach.

Boca de Tomates Beach

If you are searching for a different beach experience and you are not wanting to swim, then you should check out the Boca de Tomates Beach. The Boca de Tomates Beach is located just five minutes from the Puerto Vallarta Airport. The Boca de Tomates Beach is also known for native wildlife and crocodiles. To get to this beach you will walk upon a dirt road that can be accessed from the main road. You will see several swampy areas where there are crocodiles. There is a fenced area that you will need to stay behind and if you are bringing your dog to the beach make sure you keep your dog behind the fenced area, too. Does seeing crocodiles and their huge jaws and pointy teeth make you hungry? If it does, then you will have many restaurant options available. You will want to make sure that you sample the Pescado Sarandeo, because this area is known for having the best Pescado Sarandeo and ceviche.

Playa Colomitos Beach

To get to the Playa Colomitos Beach you will need to first take a taxi to the Boca de Tomatlon Beach, which is only a twenty minute ride from Old Town, and then you will get on a water taxi that is approximately ten to fifteen minutes to the Playa Colomitos Beach. The beach has crystal clear waters and soft sands. You can plan ahead by making a reservation at the Ocean Grill restaurant that is located directly next to the beach.
